Homemade Simple Syrup

Basic Simple Syrup
1 cup     Cane Sugar
1 cup     Water

Combine sugar and water in a saucepan, simmer for 20 mins until mixture thickens.  Remove from heat and allow to cool.  Bottle and store refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.  For larger or smaller batches, keep the proportions equal and scale up or down as desired.

Simple Syrup Variations

It is easy (and fun) to make your own flavored simple syrups.  Essentially, you are going to flavor the water portion of the recipe above and then simply make your simple syrup as usual.

Combine water and any edible fruit, vegetable, herb, spice, or 1pt infusion blend in a saucepan and bring to a slow/low boil. Simmer for 30 mins (for stronger flavored ingredients, less time may be sufficient).  Remove from heat, strain off, and allow to cool for 15 mins.  Then combine "flavored" water and sugar in a saucepan, return to stove.  Simmer for 20 mins until mixture thickens.  Remove from heat and allow to cool.  Bottle and store refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.
