1pt Old Cane Recipe
1pt Old Cane
A drink of quiet elegance and effortless charm. This richly spiced rum cocktail blends warm cinnamon and nutmeg with the brightness of fresh lime and a hint of honeyed sweetness. A nod to simpler days, when the breeze carried salt, spice, and the promise of adventure just over the blue horizon. Perfect for batching and equally enjoyable as a mocktail.
STEP 1 - Easy All-Natural Infusion
Infuse Your Spirit:
Combine a 1pt Cinnamon Infusion Blend Packet with 375ml of Rum in any lidded container. Let it infuse for 5-6 hours, then strain, and reserve the infused spirit for your cocktails. (No need to refrigerate - infused spirits can be stored indefinitely at room temperature)
1pt Cinnamon Infusion Blend Ingredients:
Orange Zest, Apple, Cinnamon, Rooibos, Ginger
Mocktail* Version:
Substitute water or a zero-proof spirit for the alcohol in this infusion and follow the same steps. (Non-alcoholic infusions should be refrigerated and used within 30 days)
STEP 2 - Mix Your Drink
Ingredient | Cocktail (1) | Batch (6+) |
---|---|---|
1pt Cinnamon-infused White or Golden Rum* | 2.0 oz | 375ml |
Fresh Lime Juice | 0.75 oz | 5 oz |
Honey Syrup | 0.75 oz | 5 oz |
Sparkling Water (optional) | 1.0 oz | 6 oz |
Mixing Instructions:
Combine all ingredients (except sparkling water) in a shaker with ice and shake until chilled. Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube. For batching, do not shake. Instead, combine all ingredients in a pitcher with ice (including sparkling water, or if omitting, adding instead 3 oz of water to mimic the dilution you usually get from shaking) and serve as normal.
Garnish:
Garnish with a lime twist, a cinnamon stick, and a dusting of fresh nutmeg to enhance the cocktail's citrus and spice notes.
STEP 3 - Enjoy!
For an Added Twist:
Add a splash of ginger beer instead of sparkling water for a zesty, effervescent twist that complements the spiced rum infusion.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
Cocktails shine especially brightly alongside appetizers that bring out their full range of flavors. For this cocktail, try these ideas based on the vibe you’re going for:
- Simple & Satisfying: Toasted coconut chips, offering a sweet and crunchy contrast to the cocktail's warm spices.
- Classic & Comforting: Jamaican beef patties, whose savory filling and flaky crust pair well with the drink's rich flavors.
- Elevated & Elegant: Seared scallops with a honey-lime glaze, mirroring the cocktail's citrus and honeyed sweetness.
