1pt Lord Grey Recipe
1pt Lord Grey
We take a classic gin sour cocktail and give it a smoky, elegant twist. Gin meets bold Ceylon Black tea and smoky Lapsang Souchong, infused with a touch of bergamot that hints at cool English mornings. This cocktail is refined without pretension, perfect for evenings that call for just the right amount of class. Easy to batch for gatherings, it invites everyone in, with a mocktail option that’s just as intriguing—a blend of citrus, smoke, and effortless charm.
STEP 1 - Easy All-Natural Infusion
Infuse Your Spirit:
Combine a 1pt Smoky Infusion Blend Packet with 375ml of gin in any lidded container. Let it infuse for 2 hours max, then strain, and reserve the infused spirit for your cocktails. (No need to refrigerate - infused spirits can be stored indefinitely at room temperature)
1pt Smoky Infusion Blend Ingredients:
Ceylon Black, Lapsang Souchong, Bergamot, Cornflower Petals - no sugar, gluten, dairy, nuts, additives, or preservatives
Mocktail* Version:
Substitute water or a zero-proof spirit for the alcohol in this infusion and follow the same steps. (Non-alcoholic infusions should be refrigerated and used within 30 days)
STEP 2 - Mix Your Drink
Ingredient | Cocktail (1) | Batch (6+) |
---|---|---|
1pt Smoky-infused Gin* | 2.0 oz | 375ml |
Fresh Lemon Juice | 1.0 oz | 6 oz |
Simple Syrup | 1.0 oz | 6 oz |
Water | 0.5 oz | 3 oz |
Mixing Instructions:
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake until chilled. Strain into a suitable glass - “up” or over ice. For batching, do not shake. Instead, combine all ingredients in a pitcher with ice (adding 4 oz of water to mimic the dilution you usually get from shaking) and serve as normal.
Garnish:
Garnish with a lemon twist to accentuate the citrus notes and add a touch of elegance.
STEP 3 - Enjoy!
For an Added Twist:
Incorporate a dash of orange bitters to enhance the citrus complexity and provide a subtle aromatic depth.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
Cocktails shine especially brightly alongside appetizers that bring out their full range of flavors. For this cocktail, try these ideas based on the vibe you’re going for:
- Simple & Satisfying: Lemon zest-dusted popcorn with a sprinkle of smoked paprika, served in small bowls for a light, citrusy crunch that matches the cocktail’s subtle smokiness.
- Classic & Comforting: Mini smoked turkey and brie sliders with a touch of cranberry spread, offering savory, bite-sized richness that pairs perfectly with the gin and tea infusion.
- Elevated & Elegant: Charred asparagus bites with a drizzle of lemon aioli, served on small skewers for an easy, slightly smoky appetizer that echoes the cocktail’s herbal notes.
