1pt Casablanca Old Fashioned Recipe

1pt Casablanca Old-Fashioned
For our most decadent Old-Fashioned cocktail, we sought inspiration from the old-world walled gardens and ancient trading routes of Near Asia and North Africa. This sophisticated drink blends aromatic spice, rich cacao, and scented botanicals, infusing an essence of luxury into a classic Old-Fashioned recipe. Perfect for batching or serving as a show-stopping mocktail, it’s a drink fit for a sultan.
STEP 1 - Easy All-Natural Infusion
Infuse Your Spirit:
Combine a 1pt Marrakech Infusion Blend Packet with 375ml of Whiskey in any lidded container. Let it infuse for 3-4 hours, then strain, and reserve the infused spirit for your cocktails. (No need to refrigerate - infused spirits can be stored indefinitely at room temperature)
1pt Marrakech Infusion Blend Ingredients:
Cardamom, Keemun Black, Cacao Shells, Hibiscus, Rose Petal
Mocktail* Version:
Substitute water or a zero-proof spirit for the alcohol in this infusion and follow the same steps. If infusing water, omit the addition of additional water from the recipe below. (Non-alcoholic infusions should be refrigerated and used within 30 days)
STEP 2 - Mix Your Drink
Ingredient | Cocktail (1) | Batch (6+) |
---|---|---|
1pt Marrakech-infused Whiskey* | 2.0 oz | 375ml |
Simple Syrup | 0.5 oz | 3 oz |
Water | 0.5 oz | 3 oz |
Angostura & Orange Bitters | 2 dashes each | 12 dashes total |
Mixing Instructions:
Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice and stir until well chilled. Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube. For batching, combine all ingredients in a pitcher with ice (adding 2 additional ounces of water to mimic the dilution you usually get from stirring) and serve as normal.
Garnish:
Garnish with an orange twist and a single rose petal to enhance the cocktail's aromatic profile.
STEP 3 - Enjoy!
For an Added Twist:
Add a splash of pomegranate juice for a subtle tartness that complements the rich cacao and aromatic spices.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
Cocktails shine especially brightly alongside appetizers that bring out their full range of flavors. For this cocktail, try these ideas based on the vibe you’re going for:
- Simple & Satisfying: Marinated olives with herbs de Provence, offering a savory contrast to the cocktail's complex flavors.
- Classic & Comforting: Lamb kebabs with a mint yogurt dip, whose robust taste pairs well with the drink's spiced notes.
- Elevated & Elegant: Stuffed grape leaves with pine nuts and currants, mirroring the cocktail's exotic essence.
